The holiday magic is officially here—we have more little DOODS arriving just in time for Christmas! And trust us… this litter is going to be absolutely STUNNING. ​

​Luka, is a 20lb Goldendoodle. He on the other hand, is the chillest, snuggliest guy. He’s easygoing, gentle, and loves nothing more than making new friends

We’re expecting a stunning variety in this upcoming litter, including solid, abstract, and parti markings in warm shades of white, cream, apricot, and red. The puppies should have perfect wavy coats, and we’re excited to see both black points (black nose + dark eyes for that classic teddy-bear look like Luka) as well as liver points (brown nose + lighter eyes for that soft human-like Dolly expression).

​Their eyes and ears are now fully open, and they’re starting to explore the world around them. They’re wobbling their way through learning to walk, which is as clumsy as it is cute, and even engaging in their first playful interactions with littermates. These moments are absolutely priceless! Be sure to check in on our social media and youtube channel to catch a glimpse!

​We’ve introduced some basic enrichment and desensitization activities this week to set them up for success. With their ears open, we’ve started sound desensitization. This involves playing soft, varied noises like doorbells, vacuum cleaners, and even gentle thunderstorms to help them feel confident in different environments as they grow.

​Since their bodies are still working on regulating temperature, the puppies haven’t had their first bath just yet. However, with mush feeding starting soon (prepare for adorable, messy faces!), we’re getting them used to cleaning routines. We’ve nicknamed this their “puppy spa time”—a gentle wipe-down paired with a little massage. These sessions not only keep them clean but also help them get accustomed to being handled all over, building trust and comfort.

​Big changes are happening in their whelping box, too! To encourage the first steps of potty training, we’ve divided their space into distinct areas: one for sleeping and playing and another for pottying. Puppies naturally prefer to keep their sleeping and play zones clean, so this setup helps establish healthy habits early on. We’re already seeing them start to toddle over to the potty area—such smart little doods!

​We’re so proud of how much progress these pups have made in just three short weeks. The next phase will be just as exciting, with mush feeding, more confident play sessions, and growing personalities starting to shine through. ​One of the most exciting changes this week is that their eyes and ears have begun to open! It’s a beautiful thing to witness as they start experiencing the world in new ways. With this development, we’ll begin introducing them to a variety of objects and sounds daily. This early exposure helps them grow into well-adjusted, confident dogs, ready to explore life with their future families.

​This week marks an important moment in their journey—each puppy will receive their first dose of dewormer. This is a gentle yet crucial step in setting a foundation for lifelong health, ensuring they stay strong as they grow.

We’re continuing Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) exercises with each puppy. These practices support their physical and emotional development, laying the groundwork for resilience and adaptability.

A happy and healthy mom means happy and healthy puppies. We prioritize mom's care by ensuring she gets:

• Nutritious Meals: Balanced, high-quality meals packed with the nutrients she needs to recover and produce milk.
• Sanitary Care: Frequent cleaning to ensure her and her whelping area stays hygienic and comfortable.
• Affection and Play: While she’s busy being a devoted mom, she still craves love and attention. Anyone who knows Remi, knows she is obsessed with catch. She appreciates a quick game in between caring for the puppies. 

While mom does most of the work at this stage, we keep a close eye on the puppies to ensure they’re thriving.

• Puppy Checks Every Two Hours: We observe them frequently to make sure they’re nursing, warm, and content.
• Daily Weight Checks: Gaining weight is one of the best indicators of a healthy puppy, so we weigh them several times a day to ensure steady progress. If someone falls behind we incorporate extra feedings to get them back on track. 
• Sleeping Nearby: I sleep right next to the whelping box each night to be available for mom and her pups, providing comfort, care, and an extra set of hands whenever needed.

Starting on day three, we introduce Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a proven program developed by the U.S. Military to enhance the development of working dogs. ENS lasts from day 3 to day 16 and involves:

1. Tactile Stimulation: Running a Q-tip between the puppy’s toes for five seconds.
2. Upright Position: Holding the puppy upright for five seconds.
3. Head-Down Position: Flipping the puppy upside down for five seconds.
4. Supine Position: Holding the puppy on its back for five seconds.
5. Thermal Stimulation: Placing the puppy on a cool, damp towel for five seconds.

The benefits of ENS include improved cardiovascular performance, stronger heart rates, better stress tolerance, enhanced immunity, and stronger adrenal glands.

​The first week is demanding but deeply rewarding. Watching mom and her puppies thrive is a joy like no other. With careful attention, love, and lots of coffee, we do our best to give these puppies the best start in life!

The next biggest costs at this stage are related to the breeding process itself. We are lucky to work with an amazing board-certified Theriogenologist which is a vet who specializes in reproduction. They help guide us through every step, ensuring the health and safety of both the mother and the puppies. The breeding process itself involves several costs:

• Pre-breeding exams
• Bloodwork
• Multiple progesterone tests to determine the optimal timing
• Insemination costs
• Ultrasounds and X-rays

2. The Importance of Progesterone Testing

Progesterone testing is a key part of the breeding process. It helps us pinpoint the exact date of ovulation, which means we can breed the female at the most fertile time. This reduces the need for multiple breedings and helps ensure a higher success rate. It also gives us a reliable due date for the puppies. We start progesterone testing around day 5-7 of heat cycle and repeat around every 2 days until the female ovulates.

If a C-section is needed later, the vet will want to know if progesterone testing was done to ensure the puppies are full-term. Without progesterone testing, we’d be guessing when the female ovulated, which could lead to complications.

3. Stud Fees and Inseminations

Using outside studs can be a significant cost — we usually budget between $2,500 and $5,000. This includes the stud fee, collection and prep costs, and shipping fees if the stud is out of state. We choose insemination with out reproductive vet over natural breeding, which is quicker and safer for both dogs. It also allows us to evaluate the semen before insemination to make sure it’s concentration and motility is adequate, which is crucial when you're investing thousands in a breeding.

4. Pregnancy and Whelping Preparation

Once pregnancy is confirmed via ultrasound, the next few weeks are spent preparing for the puppies’ arrival. This involves:

• Prenatal care for the mother
• Preparing the whelping space
• Stocking up on supplies

While we can reuse a lot of the supplies from previous litters, there are always recurring costs for things that need to be replaced each litter.

5. Pre-Birth Checkups

About a week before the birth, the mother gets a final checkup, which includes an X-ray to confirm the number of puppies. This is crucial for several reasons:

• It helps us gauge whether the mother is healthy enough for a natural birth.
• It allows us to anticipate complications (e.g., if there’s a risk of a C-section or stalled labor).

So what have we spent so far for this litter? 

This is Remi’s retirement litter so we thankfully already have most of her whelping supplies on hand. By the time this litter is born we will have invested over $6,000. This covers: 

• Stud fees & shipping 
• Veterinary costs
• Whelping supply restock
• Prenatal care
• Dog mom food & Supplements

We have currently spent $6,095.26 on this litter and we still have some time until they are born.

Breeding isn’t just about bringing puppies into the world; it’s about doing it responsibly, ethically, and with the utmost care for both the mother and her puppies. The costs may seem high, but the rewards of seeing healthy, happy puppies go to loving homes make it all worthwhile.

Now that Remi's pregnancy is confirmed, we’re thrilled to share more about what we can expect from this special litter – including the lucky dad! While our original stud option wasn’t available when we needed him (a common challenge when using outside studs), we had no problem selecting an equally exceptional backup. Remi has been paired with the stunning Oliver, and we couldn’t be more excited!

This pairing offers some unique color possibilities: expect brown phantoms, brown sables, black phantoms, and black sables, with the chance of solid or abstract white markings for added charm.​

Both Remi and Oliver have a remarkable reputation for producing outstanding family companions, service dogs, and even therapy dogs. We can’t wait to meet these little ones.
