Grooming is a huge part of owning a doodle or poodle! We recommend a 4-6 week schedule with your poodle or curly doodle and 4-8 week schedule if you have a wavy or straight coated doodle. It’s important though to keep up with grooming and coat maintenance in between professional grooms at home! Here are some of our favorite grooming products that we use at home! Shampoo, Conditioner, and Spray:Having dogs that love to swim and get dirty outside means that bath time is a regular routine here! We have tried several different brands to see which ones not only smell good and last but hydrates and moisturizes the coat as well. We have a few favorite brands that we love to use! The main ones we use are Hydra, PawTree and Tropiclean Spa. PAWTREE Pawtree has some great grooming products. For a quick and easy bath they have a 2 and 1 Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s hypo-allergenic, soap free, sulfate free, paraben free, and cruelty free. If you have a dog that’s itchy with allergies they have a great Itch Relief Shampoo as well. They also have deodorizing spray that you can use in between groomings to freshen up the smell. Our absolute favorite grooming product from Pawtree is the Cleansing Wipes. It’s great to use on your dogs after they go outside and get a little bit dirty or in between baths to freshen up without giving a full bath. *USE CODE “INTRO4U” FOR 20% DISCOUNT AT CHECK OUT ON YOUR FIRST ORDER!* HYDRA Hydra has professional grade grooming products. Their products have a softer scent but it leaves your pup smelling fresh and clean! It also leaves the coat soft and shiny! They have shampoos, conditioners, thermo active spray, dematting and finishing spray, cologne moisturizing booster, and moisturizing serum. If your doodle or poodle’s coat is dry or you just want to give it some extra moisturizing and conditioning we highly recommend the Moisturizing Booster from hydra! It gives an extra boost and really helps hydrate the coat. TROPICLEAN SPA Tropiclean Spa Sport is a great one if you love a more cologne-like smell for your dog! They also have several other softer scents if you don’t like it to be super strong! After bath time you can follow up with the matching scent cologne to keep the smell last longer and freshen up in between baths! If you have a doodle or poodle you will quickly learn that their beards can get dirty quickly. We love the Tropiclean Facial Cleaner! It’s also great if you have dogs that get any tear stains or stains around the beard Nails:We have tried tons of different nail clippers and Miller Forge is by far our favorite! It clips the nails smoothly and without much effort. Some of our dogs have stronger nails and other clippers took some extra strength to clip. With the Miller Forge it clips them extremely easily. After we use the clippers we go over the nails with a dremel to smooth them so there are no sharp edges. We use the dremel 7300-PT Cordless. We have had our dremel for a few years now and it still works great! It has different settings and comes with extra sanding bands. After we finish clipping their nails we love to use the PawTree Shea Butter Balm on their pads! It helps to hydrate them especially on hot summer days! *USE CODE “INTRO4U” FOR 20% OFF YOUR FIRST ORDER AT CHECKOUT!* Ears:Having dogs that love the water we have done a lot of research in trying out different ear cleaning products to see which ones work best for dogs. We have narrowed it down to three brands that we love to use. Pawtree has a great wash and dry ear cleaning set! Simply use the wash to flush out any ear gunk and follow up with the dry to soak up any of the left over moisture. *USE CODE “INTRO4U” FOR 20% OFF YOUR FIRST ORDER!* If you have a dog that has had issues with yeast ears TrizULTRA + Keto Flush is a great cleaner! It’s an anti-microbial, antibacterial, and anti-fungal which is great for those that struggle with yeast or even bacteria. Zymox is another great ear cleaning brand! They have a regular flush and a hydrocortisone one if your dog is starting to get some building up in their ears. Dryer:Key to a fluffy doodle or poodle besides brushing is a high velocity dryer! We have had the flying pig high velocity dryer for several years and absolutely love it! We are a multi dog househould and it has held up great with no issues! It has adjustable air speed and temperature options. It saves SO much time and energy on bath days! Brush:You should take a few minutes every day and brush through your doodle or poodle’s coat. There are two brushes that are important to keep the coat healthy and mat free. The first is the Slicker brush. We personally love the Chris Christensen Big G brush. It works great and has longer pins which helps get through the thick or longer coats. The pins are also not as sharp as some of the other brands we have tried so our dogs enjoy getting brushed more. The second important brush is a metal comb. We use the Andis Metal Comb. After you brush out the coat with a slicker brush you should go through again with the metal comb to get down to the skin. Grooming Table:If you are looking for a great grooming table we like the flying pig one! They have regular rectangle ones or bone shaped ones. It’s heavy duty and comes with an arm and loop to help restrain your dog. It also has a little storage rack on the bottom where you can put your supplies! If space is an issue it is foldable so you can store it in between grooms.
